What’s a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns are essentially caps for your teeth that serve both cosmetic as well as restorative purposes. They can strengthen teeth that have severe tooth decay, or teeth that have several large fillings. Dental crowns can also replace missing teeth or serve as anchors for dental bridges to replace missing teeth. Lastly, they can improve the shape and appearance of a tooth.
If your tooth has become so weak that it can no longer hold a filling, it’s cracked beyond repair, or you just had a large root canal, dental crowns can protect your tooth from further damage.
The purpose of a dental crown is to provide an existing tooth with the strength and structure it needs to obtain optimal health. By restoring your tooth back to health, you can prevent it from being extracted. In addition, dental crowns serve as the perfect option for replacing missing teeth.
Whether you need to restore your tooth back to strength or replace a missing tooth, nothing compares to our beautiful and natural-appearing dental crowns. Massa Dental Center provides patients with full porcelain crowns, although there are other options available like gold allow, porcelain fused to metal, and dental composite. CEREC One-visit Dental Crowns Procedure
At Massa Dental Center, it will typically take only one appointment to place your dental crown compared to most traditional methods requiring two appointments over the course of two or three weeks since we use CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology. This allows us to handle all the steps in creating a permanent restoration in our Naples, FL dental office. During your appointment, we will remove any decay or damaged material on your tooth and remove some tooth material to prepare it for the dental crown. We use our 3D scanner to take impressions of your teeth for the dentist to create your dental crown. We will also choose the color of your crown so that it blends in well with the rest of your smile.
Once your new crown is ready, we will clean your teeth and then check that your new crown fits properly and that the color looks right. We will also check that the bite looks and feels just right before we bond it to your tooth. Once it’s bonded, you’re ready to go!
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are another restorative dentistry treatment we offer at Massa Dental Center. Dental bridges can replace a missing tooth or several missing teeth when it uses dental implants as anchors. As a fixed restoration, many patients find bridges an appealing option because they can’t be removed.
Traditionally dental bridges include two dental crowns, with a false tooth connected between them. The dental crowns are placed on existing teeth or connected to dental implants. Together, they can restore your smile back to complete function and health. We create our porcelain dental bridges to blend seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. It will look so natural you might forget it’s in there.
