What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment using clear aligners to gradually move teeth into a new position. Unlike traditional metal braces, these offer a nearly invisible treatment free of sharp wires and brackets. Patients also have the liberty to remove their aligners to brush their teeth or eat anything they want. Most patients prefer these clear braces to traditional orthodontics for their flexibility and enhanced comfort. Patients wear a set of aligners for two weeks at a time before moving on to a new set. After six months to 2 years, they will accomplish their desired straight teeth.
Problems Invisalign Can Address
Invisalign can help most patients straighten their teeth. Generally, it can treat mild to moderate cases and address problems including:
- Gaps
- Crooked teeth
- Overbites
- Underbites
- Crowded teeth
- Misaligned teeth
Invisalign isn’t suitable for all orthodontic cases, but it is suitable for more cases than ever. The technology is constantly improving. If you were told in the past that you weren’t a candidate for Invisalign, get a new opinion. The odds are good that you’re a candidate now.
Advantages of Invisalign over Traditional Braces
You can experience countless benefits when choosing Invisalign clear aligners to straighten your teeth. You can look forward to enjoying:
Comfort – Since Invisalign doesn’t use wires or brackets, patients find them incredibly comfortable. You won’t experience cuts or sores in your mouth like you would with braces or debilitating pain following a tightening appointment. You may only feel slight discomfort when moving from one set of aligners to the next.
Discretion – If you don’t want to wear a mouth of metal, Invisalign is perfect. The clear aligners are nearly invisible, so nobody will even know you’re wearing them. You can keep your orthodontic treatment a secret until your teeth magically look perfect! Invisalign’s discretion makes this the perfect treatment for teens and adults who want to maintain optimal confidence throughout their treatment.
Freedom – Traditional braces come with many restrictions. There are so many things you can’t do with your braces and so many things you must give up. You don’t have to do that with Invisalign. You can take out your aligners to eat or enjoy other situations. Keep them in for at least 20 hours daily to stay on track. (22 hours a day is ideal.)
Less Time at the Dentist – Since your dentist doesn’t have to tighten wires or change out bands, your visits with us are quick. You will visit us every six weeks for a quick evaluation to ensure your treatment progresses correctly.
Fast Results – Since you switch your aligners every two weeks, your teeth move much faster than traditional braces, where wires are tightened every six weeks. This allows you to complete your treatment much quicker.
Convenient – Eating, brushing, and flossing teeth with Invisalign is a breeze. Simply remove your aligners and eat whatever you want. You never have to worry about brushing around brackets or flossing between wires.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign is an easy procedure to complete. To start, you will have a consultation with our cosmetic dentists for Invisalign at our Naples dental office. They will evaluate if you’re a good candidate for the treatment or not. If you are, they will take digital X-rays and digital impressions of your teeth to send off to the dental lab. Using advanced technology, your dentist will show you every position your teeth will move into throughout your treatment.
Once your aligners arrive, you will wear each set for 22 hours daily, only to remove them for eating, brushing, and drinking non-water drinks. You will move on to the next set of aligners every two weeks. Care for your aligners by rinsing them off when you take them out. Don’t store future aligners in a hot location, and never put aligners in boiling water.
About every six weeks, you will visit us for a check-up so we can make sure you’re showing the right amount of progress in your treatment. If your progress is really good, we might authorize you to go faster–wear each aligner for just one week. Most patients complete their treatment in as little as six months. Afterward, you need to wear a retainer when you sleep at night. At first, you’ll wear your retainer every night. Then, you can switch to wearing it less often. With regular retainer use, you can maintain your Invisalign results for life.
Invisalign is an easy treatment. As long as you’re responsible enough to wear your aligners for the correct amount of time, it’s the perfect orthodontic treatment.
Eating and Drinking with Invisalign
With Invisalign, you don’t have to give up your favorite foods or activities. You can keep eating, drinking, and doing everything you love. However, there’s a tradeoff. You shouldn’t eat or drink anything but water with your aligners in. Ensure you brush and floss your teeth carefully after eating and putting your aligners in. Otherwise, your aligners can get discolored and pick up odors.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
Invisalign treatment costs comparable to getting your teeth straightened using traditional braces. Financing may be available, and you can help make Invisalign affordable by taking advantage of tax-free medical payment options like a health savings account.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
Invisalign can be faster than traditional braces for the right candidates. Most people will complete their Invisalign treatment in about six months. However, some cases take longer, although it is unusual for Invisalign treatment to take more than a year.
