At The Massa Dental Center we understand the importance of utilizing the latest technology to help treat our patients. We are proud to offer the following updates in Modern Dental Technology within our practice:
Digital Radiographs (X-rays)
Unlike traditional x-rays, digital-rays use less radiation so our patients are kept safer. There is no radiation “scatter” as in the old systems so lead aprons are not required. However, Massa Dental still offers patients the lead aprons if they want to feel more secure.
Unlike traditional X-rays, digital versions can easily be shared with our patients using computer monitors. This modern radiology has made it possible for our team to show patients exactly what they are referring to when discussing their teeth, bone, jaw joint and/or airway.
ITERO Intraoral Scanner
The Massa Dental Center has two of these advanced impression-scanning machines. Gone are the days of bad tasting, rubbery, 5 minute long impressions for crowns and study models. The Itero is a high precision instrument recording digital 3D impressions of teeth, gums or prepared teeth for seamless communication with our laboratory. Laboratory printed or Itero milled models enable our office and laboratories to create your custom crowns, bridges, implant custom abutments, veneers, inlays, onlays, or partial dentures.
The Itero is also engineered to work directly with the Invisalign System and the exclusive Invisalign Outcome Simulator. Our restorative and Orthodontic treatment options connect right to the Invisalign Orthodontic design teams. Invisalign orthodontics case planning and delivery to the patient is fast due to this 3D imaging technology and also increase accuracy by elimination of distorted impressions. Our patients all love the ease of an Itero scan versus old fashioned impression taking! The imaging screen also allows the doctor and patient to view the images in 3D immediately resulting in better quality dentistry and proper chair side communication with our patients.
WaterLase MD Laser
The Waterlase combines water, air and laser energy for safe use on the tissue of your mouth. Our tissues, even teeth, have a high content of water. ErCrYSGG laser technology excites that water in the tissue to perform procedures without the vibration and heat of a dental drill therefore virtually painless procedures can be attained!
If you have fear of the needle or the noise of high-speed dental drill hand pieces, laser dentistry may be the answer for you. These fears can be minimized by Waterlas dentistry at the Massa Dental Center.
Waterlase dentistry at the Massa Dental Center is very precise. This allows us to remove minimal tooth structure, or periodontal tissue reducing or eliminating the need for anesthetic. For periodontal procedures, the expectation is a reduction of gum bacteria in the fight against gum disease resulting in better outcomes for patients. The extreme versatility of the Waterlase has made it an invaluable tool for the treatment and caring of our patients. The Massa Dental Center has the ultimate in diagnostic ability with the Green VaTech CBCT machine. Using innovative technology, the ultra-low dose cone beam cat scan (CBCT), protect both the patient and the office team and enable Dr. Massa and Dr. Vlachos superior 2D and 3D images to diagnose our patient’s dental and medical situations. From settings that allow small fields view to a full head view, pictures can be customized to individual needs. Whether the need to examine for a small tooth fracture, to a complex orthognathic and implant surgery, there is no better diagnostic image available at low radiation doses than the VaTech. Sleep apnea and upper airway resistance are routinely evaluated with this wonderful technology to aid in proper diagnosis and treatment planning to better the lives of our patients.
The Massa Dental Center treats hundreds of individuals who suffer from the many debilitating effects of temporomandibular joint dysfunction or myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome (TMD or TMJ). The K-7 is an invaluable piece of technology that measures and records mandibular lower jaw function and chewing muscle status. Data on jaw tracking (measurement of existing jaw trajectory and the establishment of proper bite trajectory), electromyography (evaluation of the muscles that control jaw position, and head and neck posture), plus joint sonography (assessing the status of the jaw joint function to jaw joint disc), with the K7 provides Dr. Massa with enhanced diagnostic data and treatment information not previously available.
The main concern in our treatment of our patients with TMD/TMJ issues is the relief of their symptoms. Treatment needs to include therapies that can relax the jaw by a gentle massage of the muscles. Ulf-Tens is a daily treatment modality used by the Massa Dental Center. Ulf-Tens means ultra-low frequency transcutaneous electrical neural stimulation. Just think rhythmic pulses to relax muscles by increasing blood flow and oxygen to those muscles, and causing the release of waste products, like lactic acid, that have been trapped in constricted and shortened muscles. Tens use helps the neuromuscular dentist, like Dr. Massa, find the jaws optimal position, rest position and therefore the optimal bite position.
While traditional dentistry evaluates primarily the teeth and gums, Massa Dental will evaluate the interaction between the hard (teeth/bone) and soft tissues (muscles, fascia, and ligaments). We want to help our patients achieve a harmonious balance between the muscles, bone, teeth and posture to provide an avenue to healing and lasting pain relief. Use of Ulf-Tens is paramount to this philosophy.
The therapy is non-invasive and does not involve the unwanted side effects that can be encountered with medication or more invasive treatments. Certain tens units just act to contract muscles; this is not the goal with Ulf-Tens but rather to cause muscle relaxation.
The use of intraoral cameras leads to faster results and better treatment planning for patients in need of advanced dental procedures. Small enough to fit comfortably into a patient’s mouth, an intraoral camera allows a dentist to view areas of the mouth that cannot be seen clearly without the use of this modern device. Images from the camera can be viewed on the flat screens within our operatory, enabling both patient and dentist to discuss what is going on inside the patient’s mouth. For our patients with dental insurance, intra-oral camera pictures can be submitted with claims, helping our patients to receive their insurance reimbursements.
VELscopeOral Cancer Screenings
Velscope is a device that uses natural tissue fluorescence to enhance the way our Doctors and Hygienists visualize oral tissue abnormalities that may not be apparent or even visible to the naked eye.
This specialized device is styled to fit easily within the operator’s hand and has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), it is the most widely used adjunctive device for the enhanced visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities such as oral cancer or pre-malignant dysplasia. Early detection gives our patients a better chance of recovery and saves lives.
