Porcelain veneers offer patients a conservative way to improve the look and function of teeth with minimal change. Say goodbye to worn, chipped, cracked, gapped, or discolored teeth with this simple process. Dr. James Massa can dramatically improve your smile by placing thin shells of porcelain over your damaged or discolored teeth. After a simple evaluation, our doctors are able take an impression of your tooth or teeth and prepare the area by removing a miniscule amount of enamel.
A smile makeover utilizing veneers can give you dramatic results in as little as two visit, and without drastic measures. Crooked, yellow discolored teeth, gaps or chipped/worn teeth can all be transformed into a new and beautiful smile. For some, tooth whitening or bleaching is unsuccessful and a porcelain veneer may be a better option. Contact our Naples office today to learn more about veneers and to schedule your appointment.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers provide a beautiful solution to cosmetic flaws. Veneers are thin shells of dental porcelain. Dr. Massa places them over the fronts of your natural teeth to alter the tooth shape, size, color, or position. The veneers cover the underlying flaws and imperfections.
What Are the Benefits of Veneers
Dr. Massa uses porcelain veneers to address a variety of cosmetic dental problems:
- Conceal chips
- Close gaps between teeth
- Revitalize the surface of a tooth or teeth
- Cover badly stained or discolored teeth
- Mask alignment problems
- Cover cracks to strengthen the teeth
Will Porcelain Veneers Look Natural On My Teeth?
Dr. Massa only uses porcelain veneers, as he is a big believer in the appearance and strength of dental porcelain. Porcelain has a translucence that closely resembles natural tooth enamel in the way it absorbs and reflects light. Porcelain is very strong, durable, and highly resistant to staining.
Another facet of porcelain veneers makes them look totally natural. This is the process of placing them. Prior to placing the veneers, Dr. Massa shaves a thin amount (between 0.3 and 0.5 mm) from the front of each tooth receiving a veneer. This makes room for the veneer to cover the tooth without adding additional bulk. When the veneer is then placed onto the tooth, the size is the same as the original tooth, but the tooth is now cosmetically perfect.

Are Veneers Permanent?
While a set of veneers is not likely to be permanent, meaning they won’t last for 30 or 40 years, it’s important to remember this is a permanent “commitment.” Because some of the enamel is removed to make room for the veneers, the teeth with them will forevermore need a veneer covering that removed enamel. So, when your first set of porcelain veneers reaches its lifespan in 10 or 20 years, you’ll then need to have another set placed.
How Long Will They Last?
There is some variation in how long your veneers will last. Porcelain veneers last anywhere from 7-20 years. They are dependent upon the health of the underlying teeth and surrounding gums. If you practice good home hygiene, you should have good durability.
